I'm totally with you with the character development, etc. I think that's what makes it so good (not the sport part). I don't even play 
and I consider this one on my top 3 anime of all time

anime.ricard.blogHaikyuu!! To the Top: the 4th season we should have never gottenIt will be very hard to find another sports anime as good as Haikyuu. The animation, character development, the music and the million other things tha make this anime unique. It’s a combination rarely found.
One of my end-of-year / new year’s rituals is to re-watch the whole thing, start to finish during the holiday season.
