Ben Virgilio<p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>introduction</span></a> </p><p>Hi all! I'm an inactive Twitter lurker coming over to join the fun here. It's been about a week and I can confidently say I like this platform way more. No ads, no garbage, just interesting posts from interesting people. And as such I'm going to try to be a bit more active here.</p><p>A little about me - I'm an infosec engineer at a nonprofit in <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> where I usually dabble in just about everything and anything security at some point. We typically rely on a lot of creative <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> security solutions and then some <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> glue code to tie those disparate solutions together which makes for a fun, unique, time. </p><p>I got into the security field early in my life, like many others, by asking the questions how and why. I quickly became fascinated with web applications, and the underlying infrastructure that supported them. And the obvious path from there to the "what happens if" aspect of security. I grew to learn <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/php" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>php</span></a> and ended up creating and hosting a lot of random side project applications through high school. </p><p>I've carried this forward to now, except I've graduated from php to python. Lately I've been enjoying data scraping and collection. I'm not much of a data scientist, but I pretend. </p><p>I've also been getting into <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/homeautomation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeautomation</span></a> with <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/homeassistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassistant</span></a>, purchased a couple <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/esp32" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>esp32</span></a> boards to collect data, automatically watering my basil plant, etc. I also supported the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/WiCAN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WiCAN</span></a> product, a USB/wifi <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CANBUS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CANBUS</span></a> connector, on Crowd Supply, and am looking forward to tinkering with that. </p><p>I just got back from Florida, witnessing <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SLS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SLS</span></a>, currently the world's largest <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/rocket" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rocket</span></a>, kicking off the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/artemis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artemis</span></a> 1 mission...finally! Man that thing was bright! I never got to see a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SpaceShuttle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpaceShuttle</span></a> launch, so I felt this was an important milestone in our <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/space" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>space</span></a> program to witness. It is so awe-inspiring watching a rocket launch, if you haven't seen one I can't recommend it enough. Looking forward to seeing <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/rocketlab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rocketlab</span></a> at <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/wallops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wallops</span></a> soon! </p><p>I do try to get <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/outdoors" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>outdoors</span></a> frequently, and enjoy <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/hiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hiking</span></a>, <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/camping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>camping</span></a> - and while I'm not a photographer, I enjoy <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a>!</p>
