It seems to me that the option to activate the ActivityPub feature in #WordPress (.com) by clicking "Join the Fediverse" has disappeared. Or I can't find it. #help Or does this mean that you can no longer federate a WordPress (.com) blog on the free plan?

The fact that some hosting services don't support #ActivityPub for federating a #WordPress (.org) blog is a bit of a disappointment for those of us who believe #federation is a solution to the problem of centralized networks. Web hosting services should be independent of the project they host. At least, that's what I thought it should be until now.

I noticed that the "Fedivers Reactions" Blog from Activity Pub Plugin loads the user avatars uncompressed.
There are quite big filesizes like 221kb for an avatar. The more people like a blogpost, the more Co2 it will emit.

I like #blogging with just text files (markdown) for all the reasons (portability, no backend dependency...) but at the same time #WordPress makes it so effortless. One click publish 
Every few months I'm like "should I change my blog stack again?"
Thankfully I'm more mature now and come to my senses 
With the upcoming release #WordPress 6.5 at the end of March and the supposedly support for #AVIF image uploads, I updated my snippet that does bulk-conversion from JPEG to AVIF.
Can't wait to start serving the new and smaller format on the blog.

I've gone so many times back and forth between creating my blog(s) with just files (Markdown ) vs using a CMS (#WordPress). Always self-hosted, though.

Anyone in the #WordPress world knows when will it allow to upload AVIF image files?
With Edge having support in its 121 it feels the right time to fully embrace it.

Is there a way to force #WordPress to always use images for emoji?
I know it's better for performance but I dislike the lack of consistency between browser.
I want to use always the SVG images instead of the emojis.

In the switch from #WordPress to #Jekyll did you consider other static site generators like #Hugo
I've found Hugo so fast to start and build, it's ridiculous 
@ayo Totally! With a REST API available out of the box it can be used headless, if that's your thing.
Long are the days where #WordPress was done just for blogs.
The stack is also very simple. PHP and MariaDB, done. No crazy setups.
