The building across the street that this little girl is looking at was built in

. The apartment block is located in the “Zaagpoortbuurt” (literally: ‘sawgate area’).

Marnixstraat is a main road between two famous squares (Leidseplein and Haarlemmerplein). The street has a mix of old and modern buildings, including some from the 19th century. A great deal of it used to be part of the old city walls.

I usually avoid posting pictures of people here, but here’s an exception—an anonymous photo of my daughter, taken in our old stairwell in 2017.

The houseboat “Rumah Saya” is a motor tjalk located at the intersection of Keizersgracht and Amstel. This historic vessel, built in 1893, measures approximately 16.7 meters in length and 3.7 meters in width.

In Indonesian, rumah saya literally means “my house” (rumah = house, saya = I/my). In Malay, it has the same meaning.

The houseboat is situated in a prime location, close to the “National Opera”, “Koninklijk Theater Carré”, “Museum De Hermitage”, and the “Magere Brug”.
